How to Determine
which Image to View
An index file is included on each CD, and is named MrSID20-CDn.jpg where n is 1-6. Images cover a tile area 5000 feet by 5000 feet in size. Each image has a six digit file name which is the number of the tile. This file is like an index of tile numbers. Do not confuse this image with the actual aerial photography.
For the Non-Rural areas, index files are included on the seventh CD and are named MrSID20-name of municipality. Images cover a tile area 2500 feet by 2500 feet in size. Each image has an eight digit file name which is the number of the tile.
You can view the index files using Internet Explorer or an Imaging program on your computer. Personally, I like the Imaging program that comes with Windows. This can be loaded by clicking Start, Programs, Accessories, Imaging. Then open the index, pan around, zoom in and out, to determine which image or images you want to view. You can even associate the jpg file format with the Imaging program using Windows Explorer Options so double-clicking on a jpg file loads Imaging automatically.
In ArcExplorer, load the image as described above. If you didn’t get the right image, load in another one. Perhaps a neighboring image is the one you need. You can keep the jpg open at the same time as ArcExplorer, and switch back and forth between them as necessary.
Happy viewing!
